Two-time winner of the Gallipoli Art Prize Geoff Harvey is a 2023 finalist thanks to his painting “Operation Flood Assist Lismore”, which depicts the Australian Defence Force helping rescue animals in the aftermath of last year’s eastern Australia floods that affected the Clarence Valley including Yamba.

The local 41st Battalion of reserve was first to respond followed by an estimated 4,000 ADF personnel deployed to help. Along with the now famous “tinnie army” of local heroic community volunteers, many residents were saved and peopled rescued from catastrophic circumstances.

The Gallipoli Art Prize is a privately funded prize, auspiced by the Gallipoli Memorial Club in Sydney. It invites artists to respond openly to the broad themes of loyalty, respect, love of country, courage, comradeship, community, peace and freedom as expressed in the Gallipoli Memorial Club Creed.
