Wet a line and land your catch

Smiles that say it all! Yamba Fishing and Charters have more than enough room to comfortably accommodate up to 8 people per trip.

The Clarence region, including Yamba and its surrounds, is a fishers’ hotspot due to an abundance of freshwater, estuary, beach, rock and offshore options. There are extensive creeks, boat ramps, mudflats, mangrove forests and lakes that the whole family can easily access. Offshore you will find mahi-mahi, mackerel, snapper and kingfish.

Here are a few local fishing charter companies to help you wet a line and land your catch.

Yamba Fishing and Charters is owned and operated by locals Glynn and Julie Bitton who offer a range of offshore fishing charter trips. Glynn has fished the Yamba, Evans Head and Wooli areas for 20+ years and is known for his nine metre, 3100 Noosa Cat with twin Yamaha 250 motors — which are more than enough to shoot across to the horizon and fill the esky with fresh fish.

All fishing gear is supplied and include heavy duty rods and Penn, Abu Garcia and Shimano fishing reels fitted with braid line to ensure you the very best chance on landing your catch.

Go Fish Yamba is owned and operated by a father son duo born and bred in Yamba. They operate between Evans Head and Sandon and east to the shelf, targetting species such as snapper, pearl perch, mulloway, mackerel, kingfish and mahi-mahi. Described as “one smooth spacious ride”, their vessel the ‘Achiever’ is the largest fishing charter on the north coast: a 15m Alufarm build with inboard Volvo Penta D12 650HP.

Reel Time Fishing Charters specialises in deep sea fishing charters and whale watching cruises.

Reel Time Fishing Charters, which have three purpose-built boats — Silver Star (38ft westcoaster), Odin (36ft Multicat) and Avalanche (34ft Steber) — operate from north to south Evans reef, south to Sandon and east to the shelf, covering all aspects of deep sea fishing. They also offer whale watching charters from June 1 to October 30 each year.

The OzFish Clarence River Chapter will create a platform for keen recreational fishers and community members to work together on habitat restoration projects that benefit native fish.

The Clarence is the biggest coastal river system in NSW with a waterway that stretches over a staggering 250 kilometres and has a catchment area of approximately 22,700 square kilometres. To help protect and restore fish habitats after a spate of floods and bushfires, OzFish Australia, assisted by the Growing River Stewardship program made possible by the New South Wales Government through its Environment Trust, launched a local conservation chapter.
