3 top tips to photographing Yamba at its best
For talented local landscape photographer Todd Brewer of the @Thebrewski_effect, Yamba provides endless inspiration for tourists wanting to capture the seaside town at its best — you just need to pick the right place at the right time.
“Our stunning stretch of coastline has a variety of beach types which are great to photograph in the early dawn through to sunset,” he says. “It just depends on the time of year and where the sun is rising and setting.” (Here are the local times from first light to last light.)
Having the high point up by the lighthouse provides panoramic views from Pacific Ocean to the hinterland and down the Clarence River.
“It’s also a top spot when the lightning storm cells roll in,” says Todd.
There are plenty of opportunities to take photos of surfers when the ocean comes alive, with a variety of surf breaks from Turners to Pippi in easy walking distance.
“Then you have all the yachts and watercraft cruising the Clarence River, moored at the marina and anchored in the inlets,” he adds.
Watching the prawn trawlers head out from the Yamba Breakwall around dusk is another impressive sight.

Get out early for those epic morning sunrises
Venture around town and surrounds during the day to discover a few spots you may like to set up and capture when the end of day arrives and hopefully lights up the sky as the sun sets in the west
Use a tripod if you want to capture decent photos in lower light or long exposure shots, keeping your horizons level in the image
